Fingerprinting

Fingerprinting is a online tracking technique like cookies or other tracking used to track individual devices or users and track them across multiple websites. System screen, fonts, browser can all be used to create fingerprint. A digital fingerprint is created when a company makes a unique profile of user's computer, software, add-ons, and even preferences. For a long time, this tracking technology was only successful if the user did not use several browsers in parallel. Today fingerprinting also allows tracking of a user across multiple browsers on the same device.

User can block the cookies or turn on or off, but fingerprint which serves as a unique identifier cannot be disabled. Recently some browser like Firefox has option to stop tracking through fingerprint
